How are pet parrots potty trained?
My husband potty trained our Quaker parrot and our Goffin’s cockatoo. I thought he was crazy when he started it, but he kept at it and now they’re both good pottiers on cue!
He would be playing with either bird and notice that they were starting to get antsy. He would hold the bird over the trash can and say, “Poop!” until the bird finally pooped. Then we’d all go crazy over the bird, telling him what a good bird he was, etc.
We just kept doing that until now, Bubba, our Quaker, will hold it for a long time on my shoulder. I can tell when he’s getting ready to have to go because he starts nibbling on my ear and getting antsy.
It really does work! And it’s so nice because, otherwise, I wouldn’t want to have either bird out of the cage very much and sitting on my shoulder.
My kids at school just loved to watch me take Bubba, hold him over a trash can, and poop when I told him to.
